Every child is different and whether yours is currently receiving extra tuition or not, there are a number of ways in which you can help and support them whilst at home:
● Always demonstrate a positive attitude about education to your child and
stress what an important start to their life it is.
● Talk to your child about their school work, to ensure they understand what
they are doing
● Listen Actively – the tone of their voice, listen to their opinions, encourage
them to express their views
● Structure their study time, monitor the time spent on individual tasks, help
them use their time effectively,
● Monitor their screen time to make sure the amount of spare time this takes is
appropriate and proportionate to what they are trying to achieve.
● Encourage reading and library use
● Check that homework is completed on time and to the right quality.
● Ensure your child has the correct equipment needed for each teaching session
●Encourage your child to be responsible and work independently
● Give them support when they get stuck during a task
● Keep in touch with your child’s teacher or tutor and communicate regularly,
share any concerns with them straight away
● Share your experiences with other parents going through the same process
Keep communicating with your child throughout the school year, follow these guidelines and stay in touch with your child’s teacher or tutor, to help them achieve to the best of
their ability.
